The company

Servi Doryl

It may come as no surprise that the region of Touraine at the edge of the Loire River, containing the cradle of French culture, with its collection of beautiful Renaissance era castles, and with a large variety of well known terroir’s including wines (vin de la Loire) and goat cheeses (fromages de chevres), that it gave birth to the largest manufacturer of cheese forms in the world.

In 1978, at the foot of Langeais’s castle, Mr. Lasalle founded the SERVI Company and proposed cheese forms to the local manufacturers of soft cheeses. The company was successful right from the start. Thanks to the increasingly important plastic materials industry in the Loire Valley, SERVI offered brand new answers to the diversified cheese maker’s requests.

Year after year Mr Lasalle, created unique block moulds and trays. The new technology of these products gave a jump start to the cheese making industry increasing considerably the production of cheeses while reducing the draining time of cheese and maintaining the fine quality of cheeses made in the past.

Not long after the founding of SERVI, at the height of Langeais, another passionate cheese equipment maker, Mr. Laurent; inspired by the success of SERVI, created a new company called, DORYL by inventing a process duplicating almost identically, the familiar patterns we see of cheese clothes, that incrust rinds of cheese.

That new inventive development was more than a surface asthetic of texturing the edges of our favorite cheeses. There was much more. The new process also transformed the entire pressed cheese market; replacing the old wooden moulds by including proprietary plastic draining technology as well as adding the simulated texture. The micro-perforated DORYL patterns were born.

The collaboration of these companies, based in Langeais were destined to become the number one cheese form source in the cheese making world and increased the development of the dairy market in France and also in many countries of the world.

The sudden and unexpected deaths of the two founders Mr Lasalle and Mr. Laurent, brought together the two companies to create a single center in the world of manufacturing of cheese forms now able to address all the types of soft, hard, pressed and melted cheese requirements.

A group of financial investors purchased all of the holdings of the family members of SERVI DORYL and at the same time, turned towards electronics and the industrial traceability.

After a brief period of economic market uncertainty SERVI DORYL was purchased by total majority in 2009 by ALPMA, the world leader of mechanization solutions for the cheese industry.

Thanks to the purchase by ALPMA, SERVI DORYL recovered its original world position in cheese form making. With renewed financial health SERVI DORYL supplies its customers in their new cheese form needs.
